Basic Science Course Description
This course is designed to meet the needs of special education students who require specific accommodations and modifications in Science. The course strictly adheres to the strands and learning standards contained in the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks for Science and Technology/Engineering Grades 9 - 12, but modifies the content to reflect the student’s present levels of achievement. The course is centered around four strands, Earth and Space Science, Life Science (Biology), Physical Science (Chemistry and Physics), and Technology/Engineering and the learning standards embedded in the strands.
Basic Social Studies Course Description
This course is designed to meet the needs of special education students who require specific accommodations and modifications in Social Studies. The course strictly adheres to the strands and learning standards contained in the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks for Social Studies and Social Science Grades 9 - 12, but modifies the content to reflect the student’s present levels of achievement. The course is centered around World History and United States History and the learning standards embedded in the strands. World History begins with the fall of the Roman Empire and take the student to the present. United States History begins with the Revolutionary War and leads the student to the present events in the United States.
Inclusive Study Skills Course Description
Inclusive Study Skills (½ year) Course Description (Elective: credit ½)
This course is designed to assist the student in developing study skills techniques. Those techniques will include how to study for a test, outlining, test taking strategies, memorization techniques, etc. This course requires the student to bring their assignments and class work from other courses which need to be completed and turned in. This course is limited in number and requires teacher, parents recommendation and authorization of the Pupil Services High School Coordinator.
